about

“The “Free Body Culture” EP is the latest release on Powertool Records by Wellington based avant-garde pop band Gold Medal Famous. “Free Body Culture” is a world first “eclectotronica” release. Rocking the trash party. The EP is an efficient seven-song release clocking in at 27 minutes 35 seconds, perfect for the busy citizen of today.

Gold Medal Famous promises nothing, because art is by definition useless, but you’re in for a good time with this recording. Gold Medal Famous is a band heading for the heart of darkness in modern popular music. This is music with brains. Gold Medal Famous make music for your cerebral cortex.

Gold Medal Famous are 21st century subversives. In New Zealand much mindless violence is premised with the statement “Are you getting smart?” Well, yes we are and we will not be smashed. Gold Medal Famous is part of a movement that aims to bury the rampant anti-intellectualism associated with right wing politics and the violent sports culture that smothers New Zealand. Sports stars make lame heroes; they shoot seals, beat their wives, punch people in the face and stomp on their head; then cry at news conferences. Read a good book and enjoy interesting music instead. Listen to Gold Medal Famous and feel freedom roaring out of your stereophonic system.

The songs on the “Free Body Culture” EP are short because you don’t have a lot of time. Everyone is busy. Have a good time, while you can.

PowertoolRecords Auckland, New Zealand

Rough Church was conceived after the demise of Ferdinand, the band that existed from 1994-2003. Baseball, Concrete, rare steamy rain, tumbleweeds and lost poems about dirty chimneys are what influence this band. It spits out indie pop classic jams that get us compared to everything from Minutemen, Pixies, Broken Social Scene, WAR and Grand Funk. Deal with it! We can't get away from it. ... more
