    This compilation of 2008 performances from the roster at Powertool Records plays out like an actual album rather than the disjointed hodge-podge that label-samplers can often be. I have loved cranking this, checking out names I've known about for years (the superb Sandra Bell, The Puddle, Bill Direen) and new names like The Shrugs, The Sproutts and Mark Airlie. Robert Scott (The Bats, The Clean) offers a couple of tracks and it is names like these that will hopefully attract people to some of the offerings of Powertool Records. This sampler serves its exact purpose.

    Feyodor supply one of my favourite tracks (Claws) but really that's somewhat arbitrary as there is not a dud on this among the twenty tracks and the album's sub-title can refer to the fact that there will be joy in new discoveries on each and every listen.     ... more
