  • The music of Dragstrip has been described variously as “New Zealand horror stories” and “beat-poetry”. Dragstrip himself says, “I enjoy creating images that are at once familiar and discomforting”. This can be seen in the song ‘the Eugenicist’ in which Dragstrip juxtaposes a young couple riding their bicycles through the Christchurch springtime with a miscarriage and a misanthrope. Dragstrip released his debut ep, "the Holy Loner and the Crystal Drifter", in March. He say's of the record that it is "5 slices of the best 'Hoodoo Folk' this side of anywhere". Of the dense, multi-layered production he say's "If I knew when I started the thing what I know now, I don't think I would have been quite so ambitious, that said though, I wouldn't go back and change a thing".

Rough Church was conceived after the demise of Ferdinand, the band that existed from 1994-2003. Baseball, Concrete, rare steamy rain, tumbleweeds and lost poems about dirty chimneys are what influence this band. It spits out indie pop classic jams that get us compared to everything from Minutemen, Pixies, Broken Social Scene, WAR and Grand Funk. Deal with it! We can't get away from it. ... more
