Factory Kids- 1. (2009)

  • BIG TAKEOVER MAGAZINE.
    FALL 2009.
This CD immerses me in a lovely mess of lo-fi noise and melodics that washes over me like some psychedelic underground tribute to Psychocandy. An alternate universe tribute where Nikki Sudden and Epic Soundtracks were, in fact, the Reid brothers, and sometimes on their days off they would play in the park with J. Mascis. Mournful and melancholy reverb fuzz hitting like some of the best memories I have.

Some wonderful moments that start making me think of Jeremy Gluck and his Buffalo Bill days, and I feel like some distortion sorrow swoon is going to hit me any second. Slight jangle glam comes out in bursts of upbeat melodics, but it’s the slower songs that hit your heart just right.

about

PowertoolRecords Auckland, New Zealand

Rough Church was conceived after the demise of Ferdinand, the band that existed from 1994-2003. Baseball, Concrete, rare steamy rain, tumbleweeds and lost poems about dirty chimneys are what influence this band. It spits out indie pop classic jams that get us compared to everything from Minutemen, Pixies, Broken Social Scene, WAR and Grand Funk. Deal with it! We can't get away from it. ... more
