    The Boring Stuff…

This band was made up of friends that used to hang out in Dunedin. Robin Sharma had played guitar in numerous bands while studying at Otago and formed Jetty with the remnants of Jefferson, Martyn Sadler was the Jefferson drummer and in business with Sharma in the form of an emporium called Sanctuary in Rattray Street, Dunedin (Marty was the Tattooist) Andrew Barsby, a local lad who had played bass for Tin Soldiers had been around the local music scene, joined to a solid rhythm unit. Gary Dalhousie who had played guitar in the Sydney underground circuit returned south to Dunedin to study. This was happening about and around 1996 in Dunedin. Having a love of indie music, experimenting, jamming loud and going out they soon discovered the chemistry behind their first album called Soundtrack For Modern Heartbreak. Jetty played during 96, 97 and 98. Sharma went off shore to teach for a couple of years and the band went into hiatus. All members still keep in touch. Barsby is in Melbourne; Dalhousie lives in Auckland while Sharma and Sadler are still in Dunedin.

    The Band…and their music.

Heavily influenced by The Flying Nun Stable, GbV, Pavement, Sebadoh, Sonic Youth, The Fall, Joy Division, The Velvets, Television (and The Crown Jukebox!) And together with the Lyrics of Sharma and the music of the band , came a unique indie pop folk sound that would blow audiences away and inspire the band to record a phenomenal self released debut. AND NOW 10 years since their cd was released on ltd edition run of 100… Robin got in touch with Andrew Matiai to see if Powertools was interested in having another go at putting it out on the label…….. and here we are…Sharma and Sadler will reform with Rob’s younger bros, Aaron and Mark Sharma filling in for Barsby and Dalhiousie if they cant make it down to Port Chalmers by Easter Monday.

PowertoolRecords Auckland, New Zealand

Rough Church was conceived after the demise of Ferdinand, the band that existed from 1994-2003. Baseball, Concrete, rare steamy rain, tumbleweeds and lost poems about dirty chimneys are what influence this band. It spits out indie pop classic jams that get us compared to everything from Minutemen, Pixies, Broken Social Scene, WAR and Grand Funk. Deal with it! We can't get away from it. ... more
